The short version

Boreen is a browser trivia game about Irish life and knowledge. In the daily journey, you answer seven questions with 25 seconds available for each. A question can have several correct answers. Your task is to find a valid one that fewer fellow players choose. The game turns that rarity into distance along an Irish journey.

You do not play the game on this guide. Open Boreen’s official website ↗ to take the actual challenge. We are an independent guide and have no affiliation with its creators.

Before you press start

  1. Set aside a few uninterrupted minutes. The 25-second limit applies to each question. Reading this guide first avoids using your answer time to learn the rules.
  2. Read the category carefully. A county, a city and a province are different kinds of answer. A rare response is only useful if it belongs to the set the question asks for.
  3. Think of a safe candidate, then a less obvious alternative. Do not spend the whole timer searching for something spectacular if you already know a correct response.
  4. Use the official answer control. The game judges submitted answers. This guide cannot promise that a spelling, nickname or alternative name will be accepted.
  5. Read the results afterwards. Compare the answers and distance shown by the official game. That is feedback about the actual journey; our practice exercises have no live player-frequency data.

What the daily journey is measuring

A quiz that rewards the first correct response favours speed. Boreen adds another decision: how many other people might make the same choice? A familiar answer can still be correct, but it may earn less distance than a less familiar valid answer. The scoring guide separates the reported tiers from the parts of the algorithm we have not verified.

Can I play a day I missed?

Yes. The official Past journeys archive ↗ lists earlier games. Its notice says archive journeys do not count towards your streak. Use our date finder to locate a reviewed journey and then play it on the official site.

If an answer or journey looks wrong

Check that you opened the intended journey number and date. If the game rejects an answer, keep the exact question context and spelling before reporting it to the game’s creators through their own available support channels. We cannot inspect their accepted-answer list, reverse an answer decision or recover a streak.

If a browser page fails to load, check your connection and try reloading once. Avoid clearing browser storage as a first troubleshooting step: it can remove locally saved website information. We have not verified Boreen’s full account or recovery behaviour.

What does “boreen” mean?

The word refers to a small Irish country lane. The game expresses progress as a journey rather than a conventional score. This guide’s atlas theme is our own way of connecting those journeys to real places.
